The Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Acts and Regulations is a legislation put in place by the government to promote public safety and security while and wherever dangerous goods are being handled of transported in Canada. The act outlines training requirements for all those who will handle dangerous goods to promote the protection of people, property and the environment.

Any person who handles, transports, or offers for transport dangerous goods require training or must operate under the direct supervision of and physically accompanied by a trained person holding a valid training certificate. All persons who have received TDG training must also possess a valid training certificate according to the TDG Regulations.

All workers must receive such training before they handle these goods to avoid fines, federal or provincial offences, or imprisonment.

Yes, as long as the device has a working webcam and microphone, and the latest browser (Firefox or Chrome on Windows/Android devices, and Safari on Apple devices) you will be able to use it to take the online exam.

The exam will not start if a working webcam or microphone is not detected.

It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure all workers handling dangerous goods receive the required training. The employer can use their discretion to choose the specific course and provider, but must ensure the selected training that will meet their training needs and comply with the TDG Training Regulations.

It is the responsibility of the employee themselves to partake in the appropriate training and apply them appropriately.

No problem, you can take the exam as many times as you need…for FREE! Your exam will be immediately available. Good luck on the exam!

You will learn about the general aspects you need to apply the safe handling and transport practices outlined in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Acts. This includes what is considered a dangerous good and their classifications; the documentation and reporting requirements for dangerous goods, shipper, handler and carrier responsibilities, proper use of equipment, emergency measures and special cases.

TDG training certificates are valid for 2 years for transport by aircraft, and 3 years for all other modes of transportation.

Training certificates, however, are not transferable, as they are issued by an employee’s current employer. Each employer must issue a separate training certificate. If you have more than one employer, you will need training certificates for each.

Workers who typically need TDG training will also need WHMIS 2015 or other safety training, depending on the specifics of their work position and responsibilities. We recommend you review your responsibilities in your workplace and offered safety course description to determine what you need.
