The Probe It TDG course exam has 30 questions and requires a passing score of 80% or higher, with free unlimited retakes included. This free practice test mirrors the topics the federal Regulations require training to cover, so you walk in knowing what to expect:
The 9 classes of dangerous goods and how products are classified
Shipping documents and what must appear on them
Dangerous goods safety marks: labels, placards, and when each is used
Means of containment and safe handling
Training certificates: who issues them and what they must show
One thing many people get wrong: Transport Canada does not issue TDG certificates. Your employer issues your training certificate once they have reasonable grounds to believe you are adequately trained. If you are self-employed, you issue your own. Our course gives you the training and the record of training your employer needs to do that.
On how long a certificate lasts, the Regulations say it directly:
"A training certificate expires (a) for transport by aircraft, 24 months after its date of issuance; and (b) for transport by road vehicle, railway vehicle or ship, 36 months after its date of issuance." (Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, Section 6.5)

TDG practice test FAQ
Is this TDG practice test free?
Yes. It is free, with no signup and no payment, and you can take it as many times as you like.
How similar is this practice test to the real TDG exam?
It covers the same topics the federal Regulations require training to address: the 9 hazard classes, shipping documents, safety marks, training certificates, and exemptions.
What score do I need to pass?
You need 80% or higher on the Probe It TDG course exam, which has 30 questions. Retakes are free and unlimited. This practice test uses the same pass mark so you know where you stand.
Who needs TDG training in Canada?
Anyone who handles, offers for transport, or transports dangerous goods must be adequately trained and hold a training certificate, or work in the presence and under the direct supervision of someone who is trained. This is set out in Part 6 of the federal TDG Regulations.
Does Transport Canada issue my TDG certificate?
No. Your employer issues your training certificate once they have reasonable grounds to believe you are adequately trained. Self-employed people issue their own. Our course provides the training and record of training behind that certificate.
Do I have to carry my TDG certificate?
Yes. The Regulations require you to give your training certificate, or a copy of it, to an inspector immediately on request, so keep it or a copy with you on duty.
How much does the TDG course cost?
It is $14.95. It includes the full course, the proctored exam with free unlimited retakes, and your record of training issued the same day, and it applies across every province and territory because TDG is federal law.
